The Plateau Briard a vibrant community existed. It thrived for thirteen years. From 2003 to 2015 it was a bustling hub. The Communauté de communes du Plateau Briard was its name. Six towns nestled together. Five in Val-de-Marne. One in Essonne. They formed a unique blend of urban and rural life.

The Communauté de communes du Plateau Briard was more than just a collection of towns. It was a collaborative entity. It had a shared identity. Its aim was economic development. It also aimed to preserve the area’s cultural heritage. This included its agricultural activities. These activities included market gardening and horticulture. They represented a unique character only twenty kilometers from Paris.

The heart of the Communauté de communes du Plateau Briard beat in Marolles-en-Brie. This was its administrative center. The community council was composed of thirty-seven representatives. Twelve came from Villecresnes. Six each from Mandres-les-Roses and Marolles-en-Brie. Five from Santeny. Four each from Périgny-sur-Yerres and Varennes-Jarcy. They worked together on various projects.

The Communauté de communes du Plateau Briard had many responsibilities. These included land-use planning. It also managed economic development. They worked on improving communication networks. This included high-speed internet. Waste management was also a key concern. They even planned walking trails connecting the towns. They worked to improve transportation throughout the community. They also strived for a balanced economic growth while preserving its unique landscape.

In 2008 the Communauté de communes du Plateau Briard had a budget of €2 690 056. This supported its various initiatives. The community’s population was young and dynamic. It was made up mostly of families with children. Many of them worked outside the community in Paris. The local employment rate was however low. There was one job for every two active people. This presented a challenge. It also presented an opportunity for innovation.

The Communauté de communes du Plateau Briard wasn’t just about numbers. It was about community spirit. It was about shared goals. Sadly the Communauté de communes du Plateau Briard ceased to exist in 2015. It was replaced by the Grand Paris Sud Est Avenir. Yet its legacy lives on. The spirit of collaboration continues. It is a testament to the power of local partnerships. The memory of the Communauté de communes du Plateau Briard serves as a reminder. A reminder of a time when six towns worked together. They worked for the benefit of the entire Plateau Briard.
