PC Laurence Brown was only 27. He was a Metropolitan Police officer. On August 28 1990 tragedy struck. PC Brown responded to a 999 call. It was on Pownall Road.

A few days later police arrested Gaynor. He was charged with murder. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Gaynor claimed he wanted to kill a policeman. Later he committed suicide in prison.
