They’re enjoying the lakefront, just like we are today, with the iconic Chicago skyline forming a dramatic backdrop. The monument’s east side bears a powerful reminder of the price of freedom. It’s etched with John F. Kennedy’s famous words: “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the success and survival of liberty.” As you leave the Tribute to Freedom, take a moment to appreciate the adjacent granite water wall.
