Have you ever wondered about the lives of the students who walked these halls? This is the Lycée privé Paul Claudel-d’Hulst, a private school with a rich history. It was founded in 1914 as a girls’ school by Jenny Pimor, a former student of the Institut Catholique de Paris, and named after Mgr d’Hulst, the first rector of the institution. The school was built on the site of a former convent, which once housed the Cours Faber, a school founded by the Faber sisters. The original school was located on rue Dante, but over time, the school grew and acquired new locations in Paris and even beyond. This building at 21 rue de Varenne in the 7th arrondissement was originally owned by the marquis de Narbonne-Pelet. It was built in 1704 and was home to several prominent families, including the marquis d’Alègre and the duchesse douairière Geneviève Marie de Lauzun. In 1933, the Lycée d’Hulst purchased this building, and it has been a part of the school ever since. In 2016, the Lycée d’Hulst and the Lycée Paul-Claudel, which had been a separate private school, merged to form the Lycée privé Paul Claudel-d’Hulst, as we know it today, which continues to uphold a Catholic education. This private school is a testament to the long-standing tradition of education in Paris and its enduring commitment to providing a well-rounded education to its students. As you walk past, you can almost hear the echoes of laughter and learning, carrying on through generations.
