Have you ever wondered about the history of the Wandin Baptist Church? Standing before this unassuming structure, it’s hard to imagine the story it holds. Wandin Baptist Church has been a pillar of faith in the community for over a century, with roots dating back to the early 1900s. It all began with Miss Olive Clegg, who started a Sunday School in a home on Picnic Hill. The community then came together to build the first Picnic Hill Baptist Church in 1905, with support from the Lilydale Baptist Church. Years passed filled with passionate preachers and dedicated members who helped shape the church’s character.
As the community grew, so did the Wandin Baptist congregation. In 1993, the church purchased a house next door, establishing a Community House that became a hub for numerous groups, including a Disability Friendship Club, Youth Group, and Sunday School. Over the years, the church has seen many pastors come and go, each leaving their own unique mark. They have witnessed the community’s joys and sorrows, sharing in both triumphs and challenges.
The present church building, a testament to community collaboration and faith, was completed in March 2010. Now, Wandin Baptist Church continues to be a place of worship, support, and community engagement, a beacon of faith in the heart of Wandin North.
