Remember Husum Torv as it used to be. Imagine the square bustling with life, not just as a transport hub. Husum Torv is a central point in the Husum neighborhood of Copenhagen. It is located about 7 km northwest of the city center.

Once, Husum Torv was the heart of activity and celebrations. Shops like Skotsman Jensen, Selandia Radio and Irma surrounded the square. They created a lively atmosphere. Several times a year, the square became a stage for vibrant events. Shop owners put a lot of effort into making these events special. Skotsman Jensen, Benny Waldhauer from Selandia, and Benny Olsen from Irma were some of the most active in enlivening Husum Torv.

Fastelavn was a special time at Husum Torv. Children dressed in costumes gathered in the small alley between 324 and Selandia. They competed for the title of cat king and queen. There were prizes and treats for everyone. These memories bring smiles to the faces of older residents. Benny Waldhauer, the manager of Selandia, was often seen with his pipe.

Today, Husum Torv serves as a transport hub. Buses 5A, 200S, 350S, 22, 132, 166 and 81N stop here. Husum Station is the only S-train station in Brønshøj-Husum. The area north of Frederikssundsvej has many housing estates. The area south of the street mainly consists of single-family homes.

In the Middle Ages, Husum was a village. In 1782, it consisted of 17 farms. Husum merged with Copenhagen Municipality in 1901. Trams served the area from 1924.

Husum Torv has changed a lot over the years. The annual Christmas tree tradition no longer exists. However, Husum remains a vital part of Copenhagen. The name Husum comes from the Old Danish plural dative of “hus”, meaning “in/at the houses”. Remember Husum Torv’s vibrant past as you pass through this transport hub.
