The name “Gaillon” comes from the old Hôtel de Gaillon. The hotel once stood where the Église Saint-Roch is today. Place Gaillon itself was known as Carrefour Gaillon until 1936. That was simply the intersection of Rue Saint-Augustin and Rue Gaillon.
Now, Place Gaillon is a roughly trapezoidal square. It measures about 25 meters long and 15 meters wide. Rue de Port-Mahon borders it on the west. To the east is Rue de La Michodiere. Rue Saint-Augustin lies to the south, and a building to the north. Rue Saint-Augustin continues west and east. Rue de Port-Mahon and Rue de La Michodiere meet at the square.
The area has seen its population change over the years. In 1860, it had 3,351 residents. By 2016, that number had dropped to 1,456.

The store is located in Place Gaillon.
