“A hidden gem,” a local whispered, leading me down a narrow Jakarta lane. “Mushalla al hikmah, a place of quiet contemplation amidst the city’s hustle.” Mushalla al hikmah. The name itself evoked a sense of wisdom and tranquility. Two distinct Mushalla al hikmahs emerged from my research, each with its own story. One nestled in the heart of Central Jakarta on Jl. Kramat 5, a beacon for prayer and community. A phone number, +62 21 98541072, connects those seeking solace to this urban sanctuary. The other Mushalla al hikmah resides on Jl. Kayu Mas Utara No. 69 in Pulogadung, East Jakarta. Established in 1997, this Mushalla, with its 40 square meters of land and building, serves a vibrant community. It’s more than just a place of worship. It’s a hub, offering parking, storage, a space for learning, and even facilities for funeral preparations. Twenty-six dedicated individuals manage this vital community center, supported by four imams and twenty-two khatibs. The Mushalla al hikmah in Pulogadung actively engages in community empowerment through Zakat, Infaq, Shodaqoh, and Wakaf. Educational initiatives thrive within its walls, from traditional Islamic schools to community learning centers. Regular pengajian (religious studies) and the five daily prayers form the heart of this community. So, two Mushalla al hikmahs, each reflecting the diverse tapestry of Jakarta’s Muslim community. One a quiet urban retreat, the other a bustling center of social and spiritual life. Which one will you discover?
