Have you ever seen a gate that took 4.5 years to build? Here at the Cambodian Buddhist Temple in Dallas, also known as Wat Jetapon Khemararam, you can. These gates are not just any gates. They are 32 feet tall and 32 feet wide. They are replicas of the gates at Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The Cambodian Buddhist Temple’s gates are unique. Eleven monks and community volunteers hand-carved and sculpted every detail. The Cambodian Buddhist Temple held a three-day festival to celebrate the completion of these gates. It was the first time in 31 years the temple opened its doors to the public. There were over 25 Cambodian street food vendors, a marketplace, cultural performances, dances, and music. Over 150 monks from across the nation and some from Cambodia came to give their blessings. The Cambodian Buddhist Temple is more than just a beautiful building. It’s a testament to the dedication and artistry of the Cambodian community in Dallas.
