On a whim, they decided to build a new church. Park Lane Methodist Church had outgrown its Wesleyan Hall. In 1924, construction began on a grand new edifice. The church, designed by A.E. Lambert, opened its doors in 1925. This architectural marvel cost a staggering £14,000.

Park Lane Methodist Church thrived. However, fate had other plans. By the 1940s, the church’s structure began to falter. The nearby Grand Central Railway cutting was partly to blame. The church soldiered on, becoming a cornerstone of the community. But by the 1950s, the limitations of the aging building were evident. A difficult decision had to be made.

Under the guidance of Superintendent Minister Denise Evans, a bold plan emerged. They would sell the High Road site and start anew. The sale of the old church and its land fetched a handsome £200,000. This provided the resources for their new beginning.

And so, Park Lane Methodist Church embarked on a new chapter. In September 1962, the present “Church on the Hill” was dedicated. This marked the culmination of a journey marked by faith, perseverance, and the unwavering spirit of the Park Lane Methodist community.
