The name Højvangskolen might sound familiar to you. It’s a school in the suburb of Stavtrup, Aarhus, known for its beautiful surroundings and welcoming atmosphere. But Højvangskolen has a story, a story that stretches back to the 19th century. Imagine a time when children from Stavtrup had no local school, instead having to travel to Lemming for their education. Thankfully, the local authorities decided to build a school in Stavtrup, finding a spot “in the woods”, just outside the town. The first school building was a charming, wooden structure, built with clay. This school served the community for 56 years, before being moved to a new location on the outskirts of Stavtrup in 1869. Later, in 1931, the school returned to the town center, moving to a new building on Højvangsvej 1A. But the school’s journey wasn’t over. In the summer of 1968, a brand new Højvangskolen opened its doors on Klokkeskovvej, designed by the architects Knud Blach Petersen and Mogens Harbo. Today, the school boasts a modern building, but the spirit of the original school, built “in the woods”, lives on in the hearts and minds of the community. From simple wooden structures to elegant modern classrooms, the story of Højvangskolen is a testament to the community’s dedication to education and growth.
