A humble surau once stood here. This simple structure a langgar a raised platform for prayer. It was built in the 1920s by H Muhammad bin H Mugheni. He built it on land belonging to Hj Mudjenah. This is the beginning of the story of Masjid Jami’ Al-Amin.

This unassuming surau served the community for many years. It was located on Jl H Muhammad in Sukabumi Utara. More precisely behind the home of H Mustofa bin H Mahpuz. However times changed. In July 1968 a decision was made. The surau would be moved and rebuilt. It would also receive a new name Masjid Jami’ Al-Amin.

The move was significant. The new Masjid Jami’ Al-Amin was built on donated land. H Asnawi bin H Thamrin donated 258 square meters. He did this in memory of his father H Thamrin bin Reudin. A building committee formed. Yusuf Djohan spearheaded the effort. H Muhammad bin H Mugheni served as an advisor. H Fadhil bin Thabrani led the construction. H Mustofa bin H Mahpuz acted as secretary. H Abdul Fatah bin H Achyar oversaw the project. H Abdul Ghani bin H Mugheni provided assistance.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was momentous. It took place on August 2 1968. Prominent figures attended. KH Rahmatullah Siddiq and KH Siddiq bin H Daud both respected religious scholars were present. Drs Zaenuddin the Kebon Jeruk District Head attended. So did H Umar Izzi the Sukabumi Utara Village Head.

By December 1968 the Masjid Jami’ Al-Amin was complete. It immediately became the center of communal worship. Years passed. Minor renovations took place. Then in 1994 a major renovation was planned. The mosque underwent a complete transformation. It was fully renovated and redesigned in 1995. A pendopo a large open-sided pavilion was added to the front in 2012.

The Masjid Jami’ Al-Amin stands as a testament to faith. It has witnessed decades of prayers and community gatherings. From its humble beginnings as a simple surau to its current form.
