Why would a moving company mogul open an art center? That question popped into my head as we stood before Mana Contemporary Chicago. This expansive space, nestled in the Pilsen neighborhood, isn’t just another gallery. It’s a vibrant hub for artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts alike. Mana Contemporary was founded in 2011 by Moishe Mana, the same mind behind Moishe’s Moving Systems. It seems an unlikely pairing, logistics and art. But Mana saw a need and filled it, creating a space where artists could create, exhibit, and connect. The Chicago location is one of three, with sister spaces in Jersey City and Miami. Mana Contemporary Chicago occupies a massive 450,000-square-foot building, sprawling across nearly three and a half acres. Imagine the sheer scale of creativity housed within these walls. Mana Contemporary is more than just studios and galleries. It’s a dynamic ecosystem. Future plans include expanding the existing facilities and developing residential micro-units, further solidifying its role as an artistic community.
