Consider this. Villa du Bois-d’Orme is not just a street. It is a slice of Parisian history tucked away in the 19th arrondissement. This villa, a public road, begins at 14 Rue de Romainville. It ends as a dead end.

Villa du Bois-d’Orme owes its name to an old place called “les Bois d’Orme”. The name translates to the Woods of Elm. The villa’s history is entwined with the evolution of Paris itself.

Created as “voie K/19,” it officially became part of Paris’s road system. A municipal decree formalized its name. This transformation reflects Paris’s constant reshaping.

Imagine the area long ago. “Les Bois d’Orme” was likely a wooded area. Over time, Paris expanded. Streets replaced forests. Villa du Bois-d’Orme marks this change. It is a small street with a big past.

Now let’s turn our attention to another location called Avenue du Bois-de-Boulogne. In 1880, Adelheid and Edmond de Rothschild acquired land here. It sat between Rue de Villejust and Avenue du Bois-de-Boulogne. Their intention? To construct a grand townhouse.

Alexandrine, their daughter, later inherited the house. She commissioned architect Walter-André Destailleur. He significantly altered the existing structure. The Avenue du Bois-de-Boulogne became Avenue Foch.

The Bois de Boulogne itself has a rich history. Emperor Napoleon III ceded land to Paris in 1852. He wanted a public park. The Bois de Boulogne is now the second-largest park in Paris.

Originally, the Bois de Boulogne was part of the ancient Rouvray forest. Dagobert I hunted there. Later, Philip Augustus made it a royal hunting reserve. The name “Bois de Boulogne” came from a chapel built by Philip IV.

Over the centuries, the Bois de Boulogne saw many changes. It became a sanctuary for robbers. It served as a battleground. During the reign of Francis I, the Château de Madrid was built there.

Napoleon III transformed the Bois de Boulogne into a public park inspired by Hyde Park in London. The park features lakes, streams, gardens, and attractions. The Bois de Boulogne has become a beloved space for Parisians.

From royal hunting ground to public park, from voie K/19 to Villa du Bois-d’Orme, these locations embody Parisian history. They are a testament to time and transformation. They are a place to be remembered.
