Perhaps “Ablon” comes from the old word for “alluvium”. Avenue du Val d’Ablon might just echo with the whispers of the Seine. This is because Ablon-sur-Seine likely gets its name from the river’s alluvial deposits. Or maybe from the Ablette, a small fish.

The history of this area is tied to the Seine. Originally people lived off the river’s bounty. They dwelled in the woods and marshes nearby. The first mention of Ablon was in the 12th century. It was then a hamlet dependent on Athis. The Abbey of Saint Victor held sway here.

Avenue du Val d’Ablon now stands where history unfolded. The territory was split between two seigneuries. There was Mons and the châtel of Ablon. A castle was built around the mid-13th century. Its lords were Jean le Fort and Jacques de Pacy. They came from the Parisian bourgeoisie.

By the 15th century, life centered on vines and the Seine. Think fishing, ferries, and towpaths. Enguerrand de Marigny held the seigneury of Mons. Nicolas d’Estouteville followed. He sold it to the chapter of Notre Dame de Paris in 1417. Mathurin de Douzonville held the castel of Ablon. Then the Cénasme family from Italy took over.

Avenue du Val d’Ablon has seen religious strife. In the 16th century, Henri IV allowed Protestant worship in Ablon. This was during France’s religious wars. François de Lohéran, a Calvinist, acquired the châtel d’Ablon. Protestants remained until 1706. Then their services moved to Charenton.

The village of Ablon developed trade in the 18th century. It had a port for wood, coal and Beaujolais wine. Ablon became an autonomous parish and commune. Avenue du Val d’Ablon felt these changes.

In the 19th century, the railway arrived. This made Ablon a resort for Parisians. It became a residential area as it still is today. Today, the commune is ideally located for business. Ablon-sur-Seine sits at the edge of Val-de-Marne and Essonne. It is near the Seine, Orly airport, the A86 motorway, and the N6 road. Paris is only 15 minutes away by RER C train.

Perhaps you’ll establish your business here at Avenue du Val d’Ablon. The city promotes close ties between residents and entrepreneurs. Several forms of assistance are offered to businesses in France in 2025. These include support for starting or taking over a business. This includes exemption from charges with the ACRE. It also includes ARCE capital for job seekers, and NACRE support.

Indeed, Villeneuve-le-Roi is working to eliminate wastelands. It hopes to remove the blemishes that blight one of its major axes, Avenue Le Foll. The operation has been classified as being of metropolitan interest. This will redevelop the area. It will eliminate wastelands and some blemishes. It will create green spaces and build new housing. In short, it will bring coherence to the area. So, as you walk along Avenue du Val d’Ablon, remember the layers of history beneath your feet.
