Its original construction dates back to around 1730 thanks to Juan Guillermo González y Aragón. A wealthy Spaniard who after his wife’s death dedicated his life to the priesthood. Initially founded as Nuestra Señora de los Remedios it was elevated to parish status in 1830 and dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel.

The current facade though a beautiful example of Renaissance architecture is a much later addition. It was created between 1912 and 1918 by the talented architect César Augusto Ferrari.
