Pascasarjana Multidisplin underwent significant changes on July 1, 2016. It transitioned into two separate schools. These were the School of Environmental Science and the School of Strategic and Global Studies. This restructuring aimed to sharpen the focus of graduate studies.

Before 1982, postgraduate education occurred before the formal establishment. In 1950, Universitas Indonesia produced its first doctoral graduates. These early programs were self-directed. The government later mandated structured doctoral programs in 1987.
