Lynnwood High School originally opened its doors in 1970. However the current building was rebuilt and relocated in 2009. The school resides in Bothell Washington, technically. It serves students in grades 9-12 within the Edmonds School District. The student body consists of approximately 1,375 students.

Lynnwood High School’s mascot is a Chimera. Its athletic teams are known as the Royals. The school participates in the Wesco Conference South 3A division. Lynnwood’s rivalries include Mountlake Terrace High School. They also have crosstown rivalries with Meadowdale and Edmonds Woodway High School.

The current Lynnwood High School building was designed by Bassetti Architects. Construction began in June 2007 after logging a wooded area. The building officially opened on September 8, 2009.

The school’s design revolves around a central common space. It is called The Agora. The name comes from the Greek word for “place of assembly” and “marketplace”. Radiating from The Agora are four wings. Two wings contain two-story classrooms. They are organized into small learning communities. The other two wings house a performing arts section and an athletics area. The gymnasium and performing arts wings can function separately. This allows use outside of normal school hours.

Lynnwood High School has received recognition for its design. In 2010 it won the James D. MacConnell Award. It also received an award from the Council of Educational Facilities Planners International. Architectural Record magazine recognized it as a “School of the 21st Century” in 2011.

The school incorporates green features into its design. A protected wetland with a pond and trees lies north of the school. A storm water detention pond helps prevent water pollution. Classrooms use natural convection ventilation, instead of air conditioning. Lynnwood High School received an Energy Star design certification. Its energy use is 44 percent less than similar buildings.

The old Lynnwood High School faced issues with flooding due to its location above an aquifer. The Edmonds School District reached an agreement with Cypress Equities. They created Lynnwood Place with retail and restaurant components. Costco Wholesale now occupies a large portion of the property.

Lynnwood High School offers a variety of sports teams. The girls basketball team won their first state title in 2014. The track and field team has secured state championships in 1991, 1994, and 2016.

Several notable individuals have graduated from Lynnwood High School. This includes Randy Couture. He is a retired mixed martial artist and former UFC champion. Mikayla Pivec is a professional basketball player in the WNBA. Ijeoma Oluo is a writer and social critic. Orlondo Steinauer is the head coach of the Hamilton Tigercats in the CFL. Brett Mitchell is a conductor and music director of the Colorado Symphony. Katie Thurston appeared on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Jennifer Goeckel is a Paralympian wheelchair athlete.
