What if a building could transform itself? That’s precisely the story of the Tour TechnipFMC. It stands tall in the La Défense business district. It’s a story of change and adaptation.
Originally known as Tour Adria the Tour TechnipFMC has a fascinating past. Its construction started in 1999. Financial reasons caused delays. It was finally completed in December 2002. The company Technip was its first tenant.
The Tour TechnipFMC shares a similar design with its twin. The Tour Égée is nearby. Both were built by SARI Développement. Initially Tour Adria should have been white. Instead it was built in black with reflective glass facades. At 155 m tall it ranked among the tallest. The Tour T1 later surpassed it.
The Tour TechnipFMC comprises two main parts. There is an Immeuble de grande hauteur. That means a classified high-rise building. Also there is a parking area with 615 spaces across four levels.
In 2021 the Tour TechnipFMC started a significant renovation. The goal was to modernize the building. The renovation includes adding three floors. This increases its height by 12 meters. The Ateliers 2/3/4 agency leads this project.
Primonial REIM France has managed the tower since 2013. They launched the renovation project in autumn 2021. The restructuration aims for HQE BREEAM and Well certifications. The goal is to create a comfortable space. Air and light will play a major role.
The renovation includes a new facade. The original black granite will be replaced. A lighter more metallic skin will take its place. The new facade features a black-and-white woven pattern. This design improves the building’s insulation.
The base of Tour TechnipFMC will also see changes. Its entrance will be enhanced. The double-height atrium will become more spacious and brighter. There will be renovated restaurant spaces. These will be open to the public. A large bicycle parking area is planned too.
Additional features are planned for the renovated tower. Triangular notches will create loggias and balconies. A wellness area massage space and nail bar are planned. Also a restaurant and meeting rooms will be added. A panoramic terrace is planned for the top floor. A business center will accompany it.
An incident occurred during the renovation in February 2023. High winds caused a crane to bend. This led to the evacuation of nearby buildings.
Once occupied by TechnipFMC the tower is undergoing changes. TechnipFMC split into two companies. Technip Energies moved to the Origine building. TechnipFMC relocated to the Trinity tower. The Tour TechnipFMC continues to evolve. It adapts to meet modern needs. It stands as a symbol of progress in La Défense.
