A question arises as we stand before the Municipalidad de Lanús. What tales does this building hold? The Municipalidad de Lanús is more than just a government building. It represents the heart of a community. Founded on September 29 1944 Lanús is one of 135 districts in Buenos Aires Province. It borders Avellaneda Lomas de Zamora Quilmes and Buenos Aires.

Lanús is part of the Greater Buenos Aires area. It covers 48 square kilometers. According to the 2022 census it has 462051 residents. This makes it one of the smallest and most densely populated municipalities in the area. The Palacio Municipal is located in Lanús Oeste the main town of the district.

Stepping back in time the seeds of autonomy were sown. The Partido de Lanús officially became independent on January 1 1945. This was decreed on September 29 1944. Juan Ramón Piñeiro was appointed as the municipal commissioner. Lanús separated from the Partido de Avellaneda. It had been part of Avellaneda under the name 4 de junio.

Lanús is divided into six areas. These are Gerli Lanús Este Lanús Oeste Monte Chingolo Remedios de Escalada and Valentín Alsina. Lanús Oeste covers 30% of the total area. Remedios de Escalada represents 21%. Monte Chingolo 16% Lanús Este 13% Valentín Alsina 12% and Gerli 8%.

Within these six areas are 41 neighborhoods. Each one has its own unique character. These include Lanús Centro Los Talleres Monte Chingolo and Valentín Alsina.

The history of Lanús is intertwined with the lives of its people. It is a place where families grow. Friendships blossom. Community bonds are strong. Lanús is where people take their first steps. It is where they play in teams. It is a place of belonging. It is a source of pride.

The Lanusazo was a key moment. On November 24 1982 more than 20000 residents protested increased municipal taxes. They gathered in front of the old municipal palace which is now the Leonardo Favio Cultural Center. Despite police repression the protest forced the mayor to resign. The tax increases were reversed. This event helped pave the way for the end of the dictatorship.

Manuel Quindimil was a notable figure in Lanús. He was first elected mayor in 1973. He was removed from office in 1976 by the dictatorship. He then served from 1983 to 2007. He was a strong advocate for the creation of Hospital Evita.

Today the Municipalidad de Lanús continues to serve its people. It is a symbol of local government and community spirit. Lanús is a city with a rich history and a bright future. The residents care for their city. They work to build a better future for all.
