Ever wonder where decisions shaping France take place? Right here at the Hôtel de Cassini. This elegant building has witnessed centuries of Parisian history.

Let me introduce you to the Hôtel de Cassini. It is not just bricks and mortar. It is a stage for power, art, and aristocratic life.

In 1771, Claude Billard de Bélisard designed this U-shaped mansion. He built it for Marquis Dominique-Joseph de Cassini. Cassini was a military officer and part of a famous family of astronomers. Imagine the intellectual energy that once filled these rooms.

The Hôtel de Cassini soon became a hub. Artists and writers gathered here in the 20th century. Cecil and Mimi Pecci-Blunt owned it then. They turned it into a meeting place for the artistic elite. Salvador Dalí and Jean Cocteau may have walked these very halls.

Notice the marble floors in the vestibule. The garden façade is also striking. Its design inspired two American mansions. These are Miramar and Rose Terrace designed by Horace Trumbauer. The Hôtel de Cassini’s influence reached across the Atlantic.

The Hôtel de Cassini has changed hands many times. After Marquis de Cassini died, the Landrieffe family took ownership in 1794. Cassini had borrowed money from them. He never repaid it. In 1806, General François Auguste de Caffarelli du Falga acquired it. He was an aide to Napoleon.

Later, the Comtesse de Talleyrand-Périgord transformed the Hôtel de Cassini. Jean Jacques Nicolas Arveuf-Fransquin was the architect. He gave it a Louis XVI style makeover. The Comtesse incorporated elements from her previous home. The grand salon showcases boiseries from Hôtel de Monville.

Since 1974, the French government has used the building. It houses administrative services. Secretaries of State and the Commissariat Général à l’Investissement have offices here. Even today, important decisions are made within its walls.

Take a look at the courtyard façade. Then, picture the garden side with its dome. The building seamlessly blends different eras. It combines 18th-century design with later additions. The Hôtel de Cassini stands as a testament to Parisian style.

Today, the Hôtel de Cassini continues to play a vital role. It is a place where France’s future is shaped. As we conclude our visit, remember the Hôtel de Cassini. Its walls hold stories of art, aristocracy, and political power.
