Nestled within the vibrant tapestry of Istanbul, the Habibler Mahallesi whispers tales of transformation. Habibler Mahallesi wasn’t always the neighborhood you see today. It began as a humble village in 1956, under the jurisdiction of Bakırköy. The name, steeped in local lore, connects to a prominent figure, Habib Poyraz. He was the father of a former Istanbul governor, Vefa Poyraz, and held a deep affection for this area. His name became synonymous with the area, giving Habibler Mahallesi its unique identity. Originally, the area was divided between Eyüpsultan and Gaziosmanpaşa. The western and southeastern parts fell under Gaziosmanpaşa, while the northeastern part, along with Yayla Mahallesi, belonged to Eyüpsultan. A significant shift occurred in 2009. An administrative reorganization brought the entire neighborhood under the newly established district of Sultangazi. This transition marked a new chapter in Habibler Mahallesi’s history. Habibler Mahallesi’s journey from village to neighborhood reflects the dynamic growth of Istanbul. In 1987, Habibler officially transitioned from a village (köy) to a neighborhood (mahalle). Today, Habibler Mahallesi is a blend of old and new. It holds a population of approximately 7,890 residents.
