Established in 1970, Olive-Harvey College stands as a testament to resilience and opportunity. Olive-Harvey College rose from the consolidation of two older campuses, Fenger and Southeast. This 67-acre campus, the largest in the City Colleges of Chicago system, pulsates with life. Olive-Harvey College carries the names of two Chicago heroes, Milton Olive III and Carmel B. Harvey Jr. Both men received the Medal of Honor posthumously for their bravery in the Vietnam War. Olive, a paratrooper, sacrificed himself to save his comrades by smothering a live grenade. Harvey, an infantryman, charged a machine gun nest, allowing two wounded Americans to escape. Their legacy of courage and selflessness permeates the very air of Olive-Harvey College. The college champions accessible education, offering a diverse range of programs. From associate degrees to short-term vocational training, Olive-Harvey College equips students for success. It has a particular focus on transportation, distribution, and logistics (TDL). This focus reflects the growing job market in these fields. Olive-Harvey College’s state-of-the-art TDL facility, a $42.2 million investment, promises to train students for over 100,000 anticipated job openings in the coming decade. The college buzzes with students, many of whom are recent high school graduates, with an average student age of 28. The intimate class sizes, around 25 students, allow for personalized learning and faculty interaction. Olive-Harvey College isn’t just a place of learning. It’s a community hub. It offers adult education courses and even special interest classes. Located in Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood, the college is easily accessible by public transport. The CTA’s 28 Stony Island and 106 East 103rd buses stop right at the campus.
