Beyond these walls, what stories does Darussa’adah hold? This is not just a building. It is a place of deep history and community. Darussa’adah is a symbol of Islamic education and tradition in Jakarta.

Let’s step back to understand Darussa’adah’s roots. The Yayasan Perguruan Islam Darussa’adah was founded January 7 1965. This corresponds to 9 Rajab 1371 H in the Islamic calendar. It emerged from a merger of PGA schools. These schools trained religious teachers. YPID focuses on education, social work, healthcare, economics, and preaching.

In 1965 religious figures and community members in Jakarta agreed to establish a SLTA-level Islamic education institution. Thus Madrasah Aliyah Darussa’adah was born. It aimed to cultivate a generation of young Muslims. They would uphold Islamic values amidst a multidimensional crisis. The madrasah equips students with broad knowledge. They gain skills for independent, creative, and productive lives.

The Madrasah Aliyah Darussa’adah is on Jalan Poncol Jaya No 41. It is in West Kuningan in the Mampang Prapatan subdistrict of South Jakarta. The madrasah is in a neighborhood. The area is rich in Islamic values. People from various Indonesian ethnic groups live here. The Betawi people are the majority. They are known for their openness and tolerance. This creates a harmonious environment.

One notable figure linked to Darussa’adah is Abuya KH. Ali Syibromalisi. He was born in Kuningan Jakarta December 25 1921. His father Guru Mughni Kuningan was a prominent Betawi teacher. Around 1933 Ali was sent to Mecca. He was only 12 or 13. He studied Islamic sciences deeply. Political issues and World War II forced his return.

Back in Indonesia KH Ali Syibromalisi continued his work. He taught in more than 10 places each week. These included Masjid Baitul Mughni and Masjid Istiqlal. He was active in Islamic organizations. He served as a chairman in the PB NU. He was involved in the Mosque Council and the MUI Pusat. He also led several foundations. These included Yayasan Darussa’adah and Yayasan KH. Abdul Mughni Kuningan.

To continue his mission KH Ali sent his children and students abroad. They pursued scholarships in the Middle East. His son Marzuki Ali excelled in reading books in Mecca and Cairo. His daughter Faizah Ali earned a doctorate from Al-Azhar Cairo.

KH Ali Syibromalisi passed away July 3 1996. His legacy lives on through Darussa’adah. It remains a center for Islamic education. It fosters community and preserves Betawi traditions. The vision of Darussa’adah is to create Muslims. They have good character and are independent. They must be creative and knowledgeable.

Imagine the students who have passed through these halls. Think of the teachers who dedicated their lives here. Darussa’adah is more than a school. It is a beacon of Islamic learning in Jakarta. Its history and values continue to shape the community.
