Törökvész got its name after a battle. This battle occurred during the siege of 1686. The Ottoman army was defeated here. The name Törökvész literally means Turkish Peril.
The area began to develop in the 1930s. It fully finished in the 1990s. Törökvész is located on the spine of Rózsadomb. It is a wide road lined with trees. It stretches to the edge of Nyék neighborhood. It goes up to the area above Apáthy Rock.
Törökvész is made up of villa quarters. These include Rózsadomb, Vérhalom, Zöldmál, and Csatárka. The Ferenc-hegy slope is crisscrossed with valleys. These valleys have villas and apartment buildings.
In 1847, Törökvész received its name. Before this, it had German names. These were Fruchtbare Ried, Ochsenried, and Rochusberg. This renaming honored the defeat of Ottoman forces. They were trying to help those under siege in Buda in 1686.
The Törökvész road is a main route. It runs through Budapest’s II district. The road starts as a continuation of Alsó Törökvész road. It begins at the intersection of Eszter street and Vérhalom street. The road runs roughly northwest.
