Oak Meadows Park, a beloved community hub, is undergoing a transformation. It’s not just a renovation, but a rebirth. Currently closed for construction, Oak Meadows Park at 99th Street and 51st Avenue will reopen in 2025 with exciting new features. The park has always been a central gathering place. Its 4.3 acres offered open space, two playgrounds, and areas for baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball. A paved walking path drew joggers and leisurely walkers alike. Now, thanks to a $600,000 grant, Oak Meadows Park is getting a major upgrade. The existing asphalt trails, softball field, playground, basketball court, and water fountain will be updated. But that’s not all. Imagine a new soccer field, a vibrant pollinator garden, a rain garden attracting diverse wildlife, and a bird habitat teeming with feathered friends. There will also be a new shelter with lights and picnic tables, additional benches, ADA-accessible game tables, and bike racks. The Oak Lawn Park District gathered community input to shape these improvements. The new loop path around the park addresses a frequent request from residents. Executive Director Tom Hartwig emphasizes the project’s environmental benefits. The rain garden, pollinator garden, and bird habitats will enhance biodiversity, restore habitat, manage stormwater, offer educational opportunities, provide nesting sites, and even control pests. Oak Meadows Park’s reopening in 2025 promises a revitalized space for recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature. It will be a testament to the community’s vision and the park’s enduring value.
