“How about a wedding at a former naval air station chapel?” That might sound unusual. But here we are at the Schram Memorial Chapel. This chapel is a unique historical treasure in Glenview.

Schram Memorial Chapel is not just another pretty building. It has a fascinating story. It began as one of 47 chapels built across the USA for Naval Air Stations. Of those 47, Schram Memorial Chapel is the only one still operating.

Imagine thousands of servicemen and women finding solace within these walls. This chapel served as a non-denominational house of worship for them. They passed through the Glenview Naval Air Station. After the Naval Air Station closed, the chapel faced an uncertain future.

But the Village of Glenview and Kimball Hill Builders stepped in. They moved the building from its original location. They painstakingly restored it. Now the Glenview Park District owns this special place.

Step inside the Schram Memorial Chapel. Notice the unique three-sided altar. See how ample lighting creates a warm ambiance. Admire the eight stained-glass windows. Each depicts historical motifs.

The chapel offers modern amenities too. There is central heat, air conditioning and ceiling fans. A built-in sound system includes wireless microphones. A large stage accommodates big wedding parties. Private gathering areas are available for families. You’ll also find a piano, organ, and CD and MP3 player.

Consider the possibilities here at Schram Memorial Chapel. Host a wedding, a bar or bat mitzvah. An Eagle Court of Honor would be impressive here. Baptisms, christenings, memorial services and funerals find a dignified setting.

The main chapel can seat 150 people in pews. The upper level room accommodates 40 auditorium-style or 30 banquet-style. The lower level holds 140 auditorium-style or 90 banquet-style.

Schram Memorial Chapel is available year-round. You can book events up to two years in advance. Consider it for your milestones and memorable events. The chapel offers hourly rentals and three-hour packages. A caretaker is onsite for rehearsals and ceremonies. They handle logistics like unlocking the chapel and setting the temperature.

Think about the history imbued in these walls. Think about the countless stories witnessed here. Schram Memorial Chapel is more than a venue. It’s a place where memories are made. It is a place where history and community intertwine.
