The seeds of Laflin Gospel Chapel were sown in the early 1920s, when a group of believers sought a new home for their faith. They had been meeting in a rented building at 66th and Normal, but as their numbers grew, they felt it was time to establish a permanent place of worship. A few blocks west on Laflin Street, they found a building that would become Laflin Gospel Chapel. In those early days, the chapel was a beacon of hope in a changing neighborhood. As the demographics of the surrounding area shifted, the assembly became a place of integration, welcoming both white and black members. The chapel was a place where differences were celebrated, and where the message of love and acceptance was shared freely. Today, Laflin Gospel Chapel continues to be a vital part of the community. Its history reminds us of the power of faith to bring people together, regardless of their background or beliefs.
