Originally established as a military camp in 1899, it was later transformed into a sports center by DGI in 1934. The center boasted two football fields, two indoor sports halls, eight handball courts, an athletics stadium, three beach volleyball courts, basketball and volleyball facilities, eighteen pétanque courts, and two tennis courts. After facing financial difficulties, Fuglsøcenteret was sold to Hermod Ejendomme A/S from Aarhus in 2011. Today, it serves as a hotel and summer house rental, hosting conferences and family vacations. The new owners have wisely retained the sports facilities, ensuring that Fuglsøcenteret remains a hub of activity. While Fuglsø itself doesn’t have any shops, you’ll find a restaurant at Fuglsøcenteret. The surrounding area is dotted with charming private stalls selling local honey, fruits, and vegetables, adding a touch of local flavor to your visit. Fuglsø’s true treasures lie in the surrounding natural wonders.
