Dedicated in 1977 Avedøre Kirke stands as a testament to modern Danish church architecture. But its story began long before its physical structure took shape. Avedøre Kirke serves its parish.

In 1965 Avedøre became an independent parish. It separated from Brøndbyøster. Before the current church a temporary wooden church served the community. This first church still stands. Today it is used as a scout hut.

Palle Rydahl Drost designed the Avedøre Kirke. He worked for the architectural firm Hoff & Windinge. The church’s construction cost 15.9 million kroner in 1977.

Step inside Avedøre Kirke. You will discover a wealth of artistic and religious items. A gilded wooden cross from the old wooden church is there. Holger Jensen created it.

Notice the church ship. It is a model of the frigate Neptunus. E. Ovdal Larsen built it in 1978. The Probenius organ fills the space with music.

Mette and Ulrik Røssing created the altar tapestry. It features a Pentecost motif. They also made four antependia for the pulpit. These change throughout the year. Allan Schmidt crafted the stoneware baptismal font. Jørgen Dahlerup created the church silver. Erik Heide made the fish sculpture.

Café Hjertetræet is attached to Avedøre Kirke. It was built in 2001. It is a meeting place.

Avedøre Kirke is more than bricks and mortar. It is a vibrant community hub. It offers activities for children youth and seniors. A presentation video on the church’s website shows the church.

Avedøre Kirke is not just a place of worship. It is a place of community. It is a place of art. It is a place of history. It embodies the spirit of Avedøre. Avedøre Kirke binds the parish of Avedøre together.
