Originally built in 1530, Schloss Ismaning stands before us today. It is a testament to the passage of time. The palace has witnessed centuries of change. It now serves as the town hall.

Let’s step back to 750. Ismaning was part of the Freising monastery. It was a small spiritual territory. Bishops held court here. Justice was administered. In 1803, Ismaning became part of Bavaria.

For centuries, agriculture and small businesses defined Ismaning. Around 1900, a paper mill and brick factories provided industry. By 1960, Agrob, a ceramic manufacturing company, was the largest employer. The company closed in 1990. The site then became a media center.

But now, look at Schloss Ismaning. Philip of the Palatinate ordered its construction in the Renaissance style. Johann Franz Eckher transformed it to the Baroque style between 1716 and 1724.

Napoleon’s stepson, Eugène de Beauharnais, took over the palace in 1816. He lived here with his wife, Princess Augusta of Bavaria. Court architect Leo von Klenze remodeled the palace in 1836. He used neoclassical plans.

In 1899, Johann Michael III. Knight and Edler of Poschinger donated Schloss Ismaning to Munich. He also donated the estates Zengermoos and Karlshof. From 1899 to 1919, Munich owned the palace. Since 1919, the municipality of Ismaning has owned it.

To the south of Schloss Ismaning is the Catholic parish church. It is dedicated to St. Johann Baptist. The castle park surrounds the palace. It features former farm buildings.

Today, Schloss Ismaning stands as a symbol of Ismaning’s rich history. It has evolved through different eras. It continues to serve the community as its town hall.

The Schlossmuseum is also nearby. It showcases the palace’s history. The Schlosspark invites visitors to stroll. You can jog through the 18th-century park. Just a short walk away, you can find the Galerie im Schlosspavillon. It is a popular meeting place for art lovers. The Schlosspavillon was built around 1730. It was originally a baroque pleasure palace.

As you explore Schloss Ismaning, remember its long journey. From a Renaissance palace to a Baroque masterpiece. From private residence to town hall. Schloss Ismaning remains a focal point of the town. It connects the past with the present.
