Gazing upon Capilla Nuestra Señora del Huerto, a wave of tranquility washes over you. This chapel, nestled beside the Colegio Nuestra Señora del Huerto, holds a story of faith, healing, and devotion. Built in 1927 by Ambrosio Rossi, Capilla Nuestra Señora del Huerto is more than just bricks and mortar. It serves as the final resting place of Blessed Sister María Crescencia Pérez, a member of the Sisters of the Garden congregation. Born María Angélica Pérez in 1897, her journey began in San Martín, Buenos Aires, before her family relocated to Pergamino. Her path to holiness started early. In 1907, she became a student at the Colegio Hogar de Jesús. By 1915, she had entered the novitiate of the Sisters of the Garden in Villa Devoto. Sister María Crescencia’s dedication led her to Mar del Plata in 1925, where she cared for tuberculosis patients at the Maritime Sanatorium. Tragically, she contracted the disease herself. Seeking a milder climate, she was moved to Vallenar, Chile, in 1928. Sadly, her condition worsened, and she passed away on May 20, 1932. A remarkable phenomenon occurred upon her death. A powerful scent of violets filled the air. Her remains were returned to Argentina. Since 1986, they have been venerated within Capilla Nuestra Señora del Huerto in Pergamino. Sister María Crescencia Pérez was beatified on November 17, 2012. Her beatification was partly due to a miraculous healing attributed to her intercession. A 23-year-old woman, critically ill with hepatitis complicated by diabetes, was hospitalized at the Hospital Italiano in Buenos Aires. A sister caring for her gave her a prayer card of Crescencia. Prayer chains were formed for her recovery. The young woman’s health dramatically improved. Medical examinations revealed her liver had begun functioning normally, averting the need for a transplant. Capilla Nuestra Señora del Huerto stands as a testament to her life and legacy.
