Ever wondered what it’s like to attend a school with over 75 nationalities? That’s Stamford American International School. Stamford American International School is a co-educational international school in Singapore. It first opened its doors in August 2009. Cognita owns and operates the school.
Stamford American has two campuses. The Early Learning Village caters to students from Pre-Nursery to KG2. It is located at Chuan Lane. The Elementary and Secondary Campus is on Woodleigh Lane. It serves students from Grades 1 to 12. The Woodleigh Lane campus is near Woodleigh MRT station.
The Singapore government listed the Upper Serangoon Secondary School site in August 2008. It was available for a new international school. This addressed the need for international school places. Businesses wanted to recruit employees from other countries. These potential hires were reluctant to work where international school places were scarce. In November, the government chose Cognita to build the new school.
Stamford American International School first opened at the Foundation Campus. This was in August 2009. The location was 11 Lorong Chuan. The permanent campus was being built at the time. The new 300 million dollar campus opened in August 2012.
Stamford American opened the world’s largest preschool in August 2017. This was in collaboration with the Australian International School. The Early Learning Village is 50000 square meters. It has five buildings and over 100 classrooms. It caters to children aged two months to six years.
The majority of Stamford American’s students come from several countries. These include the United States Canada UK Japan Australia New Zealand and China. Stamford American celebrates many cultural events. The Parent Teacher Association organizes the week-long International Fiesta. Lunar New Year Deepavali and Christmas are also celebrated.
Stamford American students can graduate with a US-accredited Stamford High School Diploma. They have the opportunity to pursue an International Baccalaureate Diploma. They can also pursue an Advanced Placement Diploma. The school offers over 40 IB courses. It offers more than 20 AP courses.
Stamford American International School is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools. This is part of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges WASC. It is an authorized school for several IB programs. These include the IB Primary Years Programme the IB Middle Years Programme and the IB Diploma Programme. Stamford American is an IB World School.
The typical student-teacher ratio varies. It is 5 to 11:1 for Nursery to KG2. It is 12 to 24:1 for Grades 1 to 5. It is 24:1 for Grades 6 to 11.
Stamford American offers optional after-school mother-tongue programs for all students. There are 12 languages available. These include Danish Dutch Filipino Finnish French Hebrew Hindi Norwegian Portuguese Russian Spanish and Swedish. Students have access to native teachers and classroom facilities. They also have access to a library and event spaces. The Stamford World Language Program offers Mandarin Spanish and English.
The Academic Field Studies Program starts in Grade 3. It takes place in environments beyond the classroom. It was developed with the JUMP Foundation.
Stamford American’s co-curricular activities program has around 350 choices. These are available throughout the year. They are for students from Pre-K to Grade 12. Over 75% of Stamford American students are enrolled.
Stamford American provides productions every year at the Reagan Theater. Weekly drama classes begin in Kindergarten. They continue to Grade 10. Stamford American also offers an International Baccalaureate Diploma in Theater. It offers a BTEC in Performing Arts Acting.
Stamford American offers sports for Kindergarten to Grade 12. Stamford American is a member of the South East Asia Student Activities Conference SEASAC.
The Stamford American community built the Cambodia Hope School. This was in partnership with World Assistance for Cambodia. It is located in the Boribo Province of Cambodia.
Stamford American has two centrally located campuses. They are linked by a shuttle bus service. The Elementary and Secondary campus has 3 swimming pools. It has 2 air-conditioned indoor sports arenas and 2 libraries. There are rooftop tennis courts dance studios and rock-climbing walls. It also features a multipurpose sports field and an indoor virtual golf studio. The campus has a 500-seat theater. It includes an Innovation Center and Maker Space. This space contains 3D printers robots and other electronics. The Early Learning Village has 6 ultraviolet-protected outdoor areas. It features an Infant Care Pod with sensory play areas. It also includes a 20-meter pool with adjustable lanes. The Hive is an air-conditioned multipurpose gymnasium.
