Recall a time when Harleshausen mourned its dead without a dedicated chapel. That changed in the first decade of the 20th century. The Friedhofskapelle Harleshausen was built in the historicism style. It became Harleshausen’s first cemetery chapel.
During the last World War, tragedy struck. The Friedhofskapelle Harleshausen suffered heavy damage from aerial bombs. The beautiful lead-glazed windows were lost.

The people of Harleshausen wouldn’t let it fall into decay. The Friedhofskapelle Harleshausen’s unique style led to its listing as a protected monument. Since then a local association has worked to preserve the building. Dedicated members invested personal effort. They renovated it extensively transforming it into a communication and community center.
Today the Friedhofskapelle Harleshausen hosts various events. It holds family celebrations and gatherings after funerals. You will also find exhibitions, concerts, and readings here. Even flea markets and bazaars take place within its walls. The Friedhofskapelle Harleshausen has truly been reborn. It stands not only as a monument but as a vibrant hub for the community.
