Built from 2001 to 2011 the Káposztásmegyeri Református Egyházközség stands before you. Its construction marked a significant moment for the Reformed community in Káposztásmegyer. This wasn’t just the raising of bricks and mortar. It represented the culmination of years of faith and community building.
The story of the Káposztásmegyeri Református Egyházközség begins long before its foundation stone was laid. In 1988 a small group of families started gathering for home Bible studies and services. These early believers laid the groundwork for what would become a thriving congregation. Among them were the Csere Koronka and Polgár families. Their dedication and commitment to their faith were instrumental in the congregation’s growth.
As more Reformed families moved to the Káposztásmegyer housing estate the need for a dedicated church grew. The Catholic community already held services in the local community center. This inspired the Reformed community to pursue their own space. Their persistent efforts eventually bore fruit.
On March 4 1990 the first official service was held. It was a modest gathering of less than forty people in the community center. The Újpest-Újvárosi Reformed Congregation provided support. This included Sunday school classes at the local school and summer camps for families.
In 1997 the Káposztásmegyeri Református Missziói Egyházközség was officially established. This marked a significant step toward independence. The congregation found a pastor in András Zámbó and his wife Hajnalka. They became key figures in guiding the congregation’s growth and the construction of their own church.
The church and parsonage buildings were designed by Ferenc Potzner. The architect’s vision is striking. From the Kőrösi Csoma Sándor street the building’s silhouette resembles a pastor raising his hands in blessing. This reflects the spiritual essence of the community.
The construction project was a testament to community spirit and dedication. Many contributed both financially and physically. The church was finally consecrated on October 15 2011. It serves as a beacon of faith and a hub for community life. The Káposztásmegyeri Református Egyházközség continues to serve its community. It hosts Sunday services Sunday school and various outreach programs. It shows the enduring power of faith and community.
