A prophecy whispered on the wind. That’s how the story of Casa de Oração begins. In 2012, Blair Fraim and his team from Exodus Cry visited Vila Mimosa. They prayed for mercy amidst the bustling streets. Suddenly, a downpour began. A voice seemed to echo, “I will send the rain, I will send the spirit of Elias.” This divine message, reminiscent of Malachi 4:6, marked the beginning of Casa de Oração. The World Cup was approaching. Exodus Cry envisioned prayer rooms in each of the twelve host cities. Finding a space for Casa de Oração proved difficult. In the final week, against all odds, a location was secured. This was thanks in part to Samuel Brum. His persistence connected the American team with local Brazilians, leading to the opening of Casa de Oração on Rua Ceará, in the heart of Vila Mimosa. Casa de Oração became a beacon of prayer in a challenging area. After the World Cup, Exodus Cry returned to the United States. Samuel and his team continued the work at Casa de Oração. A year later, news outlets reported a 50% decrease in prostitution in the area. Some attributed it to economic downturn. Those at Casa de Oração believed it was a direct answer to their prayers. In 2015, Michael Duque Estrada took leadership. He focused on prayer, establishing Casa de Oração as a mission base. He felt called to marry the mission to Vila Mimosa. The vision grew. A team of missionaries and volunteers joined, expanding the prayer ministry. A ministerial school was launched in 2016, along with evangelism and justice initiatives. The journey of Casa de Oração has been full of challenges. Near evictions, lack of resources, and constant obstacles. Yet, through it all, they persevere. The flame of prayer remains lit at Casa de Oração, a testament to faith and resilience.
