Back in the 11th century monks chose this place to build a monastery. They lived peacefully until 1592. Condé’s soldiers arrived and burned the monastery during the Wars of Religion. It was a devastating event that changed the course of Saulx-les-Chartreux forever.

The inhabitants of Saulx-les-Chartreux are known as Salucéens. This name echoes through the centuries. It connects today’s residents with their shared past. Imagine the Salucéens of old working the land and building their community.
