Could you imagine that the land beneath Parroquia Resurrección del Señor was once part of a family estate? Adolfo Tornquist of the prominent Tornquist family donated this land. It originally belonged to his father’s company.
Welcome to the Parroquia Resurrección del Señor. It is a testament to faith and architectural beauty. The church stands as a beacon in Buenos Aires.
Adolfo Tornquist didn’t just donate land. He also provided funds for the church’s construction. In 1924, Tornquist played a key role in repatriating the remains of Ceferino. This act further cemented his connection to the nation’s faith and history.
The Parroquia Resurrección del Señor was officially established on July 25, 1934. The current building was blessed in April 1937. Carlos Massa a renowned architect designed the church. He masterfully combined Romanesque and Lombard elements. This gives the Parroquia Resurrección del Señor its unique charm.
Over the years the Parroquia Resurrección del Señor has seen many celebrations. During its 25th anniversary in 1962 Cardinal Antonio Caggiano blessed the new altar. It was dedicated to the Resurrected Jesus.
Interestingly the interior layout has evolved. The cross at the lateral entrance was once in the left aisle. It stood beside the Virgin Mary and Saint John. In 1986, Luis Espinosa added his artistry creating “Restoration of the Eucharist” and “Pentecost”.
Notice how the entrance portico is set back slightly. This creates a small atrium. It invites visitors into a sacred space. The facade’s windows lack images. This allows natural light to flood the interior creating a serene atmosphere. A Celtic cross crowns the building’s front.
To the right of the atrium is a glass niche. It holds an image of Jesus evoking peace. Above it is the Copello shield adding local history. The tympanum above the main door features a stained glass of the resurrected Jesus with his disciples. Pablo Felliver Subirats created this artwork in 2016. Before this Our Lady of Luján stood there.
Inside the Parroquia Resurrección del Señor natural light plays a vital role. Upper windows in each nave and the apse fill the space with warmth. Modern sconces provide artificial light when needed. They blend seamlessly with the architecture.
The Parroquia Resurrección del Señor features three naves. Seven elegant arches divide them. In the right aisle stands an old harmonium. It has accompanied religious services since the church’s early days.
The main altar commands attention. It was originally made of polychrome wood. It covered the apse’s height and width. The altar featured an impressive image of the resurrected Jesus also seen in the atrium. Due to deterioration it was replaced with a marble altar. Mahlknecht Hnos S.A. crafted the new altar.
The figure of the resurrected Jesus remains central. It is framed by two red coral marble columns. These symbolize strength and faith.
