Once a humble building now stands Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Perling. It is a beacon of knowledge in Taman Perling. This school has a rich history. It began in June 1990. The students and some teachers temporarily used the Sekolah Kebangsaan Perumahan Tampoi (1) building.
Initially, there were only 31 students. They ranged from year one to year five. There were 13 teachers. The student body was diverse. It included Malay, Chinese, and Indian children.
In April 1991, Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Perling acquired its own building. It was located on a hill in the heart of Taman Perling. The address is Jalan Persisiran Perling Satu. The distance to Johor Bahru is about 18 kilometers. The move to the new school occurred on May 1, 1991.
The school comprised two three-story buildings. These buildings housed the headmaster’s office. They also included a staff room, library, and resource center. There were 20 classrooms. A canteen and restrooms were available for teachers and students.
In 1991 or 1992, special education classes began. This was a pilot project in the Johor Bahru district. Initially, three classes were created. A preschool class was also established. It accommodated 25 children. There was one coordinating teacher and one caregiver.
In 1990, a special education class opened in Kampung Pasir. At first, there were 11 students. Two teachers were assigned. The special education class moved to Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Perling in May 1991. An additional building was constructed to accommodate the increasing number of students. This building included three classrooms. It was completed in 1995.
In 1998, additional facilities were added. These included restrooms. YPJ Holding Sdn Bhd funded the construction. A preschool class was established on January 1, 1992. The class had only 25 students at that time. Children around six years old were admitted. These children came from low-income families. They could not afford private kindergartens.
The government created preschool classes. This gave these children a chance to adjust to school. It prepared them before entering year one. These students did not pay school fees. The Ministry of Education provided assistance. This included a daily meal allowance of 50 sen. Teaching and learning lasted three and a half hours each day. Instruction was informal and flexible. The preschool class at this school was once a trial class. The Ministry of Education used it to explore creating more preschools in every school.
By 2009, Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Perling had grown. It had 614 male students and 516 female students. The total student population was 1130. There were 75 teachers.
Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Perling continues to serve the community. Its motto is “Berilmu, Berpendidikan, Beramal”. This translates to Knowledgeable, Educated, Practicing. The school song reflects its commitment to knowledge and dedication to the nation. The school stands as a testament to the power of education. It shapes young minds and builds a brighter future.
