You’re standing right in front of the original homesteads, built during the Great Depression. Today, these charming homes stand side-by-side with modern mansions. The residents of Dalworthington Gardens, however, still value the unique character and sense of community that was established during this era. The town was created to help families struggling to make ends meet. The federal government purchased 593 acres and divided the land into 79 homesteads, each varying in size from 3 to 32 acres. The goal was simple: to provide families with a place to build a home, grow their own food, and have a sense of independence. The town was the only one of five such projects in Texas to survive. It’s a testament to the resilience of the original settlers. Today, Dalworthington Gardens is a thriving community with a rich history that has its roots in the heart of the Depression era.
