Pecan Springs School Park wasn’t always a park. It once served as the grounds of Pecan Springs Elementary School, a place where generations of young minds, known as the Mighty Eagles, took flight on their educational journeys. Founded in 1957, the school, much like the pecan trees that grace our city, has witnessed the ebb and flow of time. Pecan Springs Elementary, a cornerstone of the community, has always been more than just bricks and mortar. The school has been known for its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment. It’s a place where signature programs in dual language learning, hands-on science and engineering through Project Lead the Way, and sustainable agriculture through the PEAS program have taken root and flourished. However, time, as it often does, brought change. As Austin evolved, so did the needs of its educational spaces. Recognizing the importance of investing in the future, Austin ISD embarked on a mission to modernize its aging schools. In 2022, a bond was passed, paving the way for a transformation that would breathe new life into Pecan Springs Elementary. The old building, having served its purpose admirably, was bid farewell.
