“185 meters long that’s Rue de Sully” This charming street in the 4th arrondissement of Paris boasts a rich history. It’s named after Maximilien de Béthune Duke of Sully a powerful figure in French history. He served as the Superintendent of Finances under King Henri IV.

Rue de Sully wasn’t always a street. Originally it was part of the courtyard of the Grand Arsenal. This grand complex played a significant role in Paris’s past. The street opened in 1807 initially called “rue Neuve de Sully”. A portion of the street between Boulevard Henri-IV and Rue du Petit-Musc was later joined to the Quai des Célestins.

The street is lined with impressive buildings. The Caserne des Célestins stands on one side. On the other sits the Bibliothèque de l’Arsenal a renowned library. The library’s entrance features a stunning bas-relief with military motifs. It’s a small detail but tells a story of the area’s past.

The metro station Sully-Morland on line 7 is conveniently located near Rue de Sully. This makes it easy for visitors to explore this historical gem. The street connects Rue Mornay and Boulevard Henri-IV. The junction with Boulevard Henri-IV dates back to the boulevard’s opening. The blend of history and modern convenience makes Rue de Sully a must-see destination.

Take a moment to picture the bustling scene. Imagine carriages and people moving about. Feel the weight of history beneath your feet. Rue de Sully is more than a street. It’s a living testament to Paris’s vibrant past. It’s a place where history and present day collide. A charming and fascinating place to visit.
