EY-Huset

Amidst the bustling cityscape of Aarhus, EY-Huset stands tall. It stands as a testament to modern architecture and an example of how old and new can blend seamlessly together. EY-Huset, formerly known as KPMG Huset, takes its current name from Ernst & Young. Ernst & Young acquired the Danish KPMG activities and the building was renamed. The building, completed in 2004, stretches towards the sky, its glass facade shimmering in the Danish sunlight. EY-Huset isn’t just a pretty face though. This structure stands at an impressive 68.5 meters, placing it among the tallest buildings in Aarhus, and Denmark. It’s dwarfed only by Aarhus Cathedral, Aarhus City Tower, and Ceres Panorama. EY-Huset is a mixed-use building. The top two floors offer luxurious condominiums. Ten floors below those house offices while the lower levels cater to various businesses and services. Imagine living at the top, with panoramic views of the city. Now, picture yourself working in one of the offices, or visiting a shop on the lower floors. EY-Huset is part of the larger Bruun’s Galleri commercial project. Its location, directly behind Aarhus Central Station, makes it a focal point of the city. The building is surrounded by generally lower structures, allowing it to dominate the skyline. Look closely at the glass facade. It was chosen with meticulous care. Architects tested two different types before settling on this unique design. The chosen glass was lightly corroded with acid to prevent distracting reflections in the surrounding area. A partial silk imprint limits the amount of light entering the building. This minimizes heat buildup, reducing the need for excessive cooling. The design of EY-Huset is a collaboration between the architectural firms Schmidt Hammer Lassen and 3XN. They worked alongside NCC Construction Danmark A/S who led the project. The result is a modern marvel. It elegantly combines functionality with aesthetic appeal.
