Gazing upon Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce, do you sense the echoes of its rapid birth? Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce arose swiftly in the heart of Paris’s 15th arrondissement. Construction began in 1860 and concluded just a year later in 1861. Its dedication coincided with the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. This neo-Romanesque chapel, nestled at 6 rue Fondary, has served as a spiritual anchor for the Religious of Saint Vincent de Paul. They have been its caretakers since its inception. The facade of Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce presents a striking gable wall. A large oculus graces the space above the arched portal. A modest bell tower, capped with a low pavilion roof, stands sentinel on the right side. Inside, the chapel exudes a quiet reverence. The interior reflects the neo-Romanesque style, offering a tranquil space for worship and reflection. The congregation, initially the Catholic Workers’ Circle, found solace within its walls. In 1866, Abbé Pierre-Victor Braun founded the Congregation of the Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Versailles within Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce. Vespers echoed through the chapel daily. They precede the weekday mass at 7 pm. Confessions are offered on Thursdays from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturdays from 5 pm to 6 pm. The Religious of Saint Vincent de Paul, whose provincial house is located at 27 rue de Dantzig, continue to serve the community at Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce. The chapel stands as a testament to their dedication and the enduring power of faith in the bustling city of Paris.
