But the Shanghai University we see today is the result of a significant merging. In 1994, four institutions combined their strengths. These were Shanghai University of Technology. Also, Shanghai University of Science & Technology. Further, the Shanghai Institute of Science & Technology joined. And finally, the former Shanghai University completed the merger. Jiang Zemin inscribed the university’s name. He was the President of China at that time. Qian Weichang served as chancellor. He was the Vice Chairman of the National Committee.
