“See that building? That’s the Al-Hurriyah Mosque. It stands as a testament to modern design and community spirit here in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

Al-Hurriyah Mosque isn’t just a place of worship. It is a landmark. From the Pasar Minggu Baru Station platform you can already see the Al-Hurriyah Mosque.

The MNC Group built this mosque on Jalan Batu Merah IV. The Al-Hurriyah Mosque has a unique industrial theme. Grey, black, and white dominate its exterior and interior.

Notice the high ceilings. These keep the mosque cool. This design choice makes air conditioning unnecessary. The roof is also quite distinctive. It features three smaller sloping segments. These segments divide the foyer, terraced places of worship and main prayer area.

Inside Al-Hurriyah Mosque you will find that it is spacious and well-lit. Good air circulation enhances the comfortable atmosphere. Completed in 2020, the Al-Hurriyah Mosque covers 745 square meters.

The architects at Ago Architects designed it to be a qibla for the neighborhood. This means it is intended to be a focal point for the community. Sustainability was a key concept in its design. The Al-Hurriyah Mosque requires less energy for its daily needs.

The mosque’s design incorporates several strategies. Three sloping roofs create sequences. Each roof segment marks a different area. These roofs provide shade and manage rain and heat effectively. Skylights at the tip of each roof segment mark prayer times with natural light.

Look at the integration of the roof segments and the tower. From the side facing the train terminal it forms a symbol of the word Allah. Synthetic wood lattices act as curtains. They control heat penetration, maintaining thermal comfort inside.

Architecturally, the stairs, terraces, and courtyards act as public spaces. The mosque serves religious purposes and encourages community interaction. The open courtyard invites activities from the surrounding neighborhood. Stairs around the building’s perimeter offer accessible public space.

Though relatively new Al-Hurriyah Mosque hosts various religious activities. During Ramadan, events before breaking the fast include Islamic lectures and food distribution.

Al-Hurriyah Mosque stands as a modern beacon of faith and community. It combines innovative design with practical functionality. Its unique architectural elements create a welcoming space. It is a place for worship and gathering in the heart of Pasar Minggu.”
