The Ingleside Branch Library first opened its doors in 1925. It became the 11th library in the San Francisco system. Before settling here, the library operated from several “library stations”. These stations included 422 Holloway Avenue, 1612 Ocean Avenue, and 387 Ashton Avenue. These earlier locations helped serve the community’s reading needs.
In 2001, the Ingleside Branch Library moved temporarily. It occupied a leased facility. This was the former Bank of America building at 1649 Ocean Avenue. The library stayed there until its current building was ready.
The eagerly anticipated new branch building opened on September 12, 2009. This modern facility is located at 1298 Ocean Avenue. It stands proudly at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Plymouth. The new building provides enhanced services and resources.
The Ingleside Branch Library boasts a variety of collections. You will find high-interest books for adults, teens, and children. The library also offers materials in multiple languages. There is a medium-sized collection of Chinese materials. This includes books, magazines, newspapers, music CDs, and DVDs. A smaller collection of Spanish materials is also available.
