The S\u00fcdbad first opened its doors in 1960. It was Munich’s first Stadtteilbad or district swimming pool. Hans-Jochen Vogel, the mayor, gave the opening speech. The Isarnixen club’s divers and swimmers performed amazing feats.
Originally, the S\u00fcdbad even had a small crocodile. It lived in an aquarium in the smaller swimming hall. Can you imagine swimming alongside a crocodile, even a small one?
The S\u00fcdbad has changed over the years. The pool was renovated in stages in 1999 and 2008. The renovations transformed it into a modern wellness center. Christian Ude, Munich’s mayor, reopened the S\u00fcdbad in December 2008.

The S\u00fcdbad also has a sauna area. You can enjoy a Finnish sauna at about 92 degrees Celsius. There is a sanarium at about 60 degrees Celsius. A steam bath at about 45 degrees Celsius awaits you. An ice fountain and an outdoor terrace are available. Quiet rooms offer relaxation.
The S\u00fcdbad focuses on accessibility. It has an elevator to the building’s facade. Another elevator is inside. Large changing rooms are available in the swimming and sauna areas. A pool entry aid is in the swimming pool. There is also disabled parking.
Today, the S\u00fcdbad combines nature, sport, and wellness. Large glass facades and many plants create a feeling of swimming in nature. The heated outdoor pool features a current channel. Massage jets and neck showers enhance relaxation. The sauna area covers more than 500 square meters. Here, you will find a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, and a sanarium. An outdoor terrace and an ice fountain are also available.
If you want to pamper your skin, you can use salt to exfoliate in the steam bath. This is available between 11:30 am and 6:30 pm. Sauna infusions take place every hour.
