The cornerstone of this magnificent structure was laid in 1905. The church was finally inaugurated on February 2nd 1909. This was a momentous occasion. Monseñor Juan Nepomuceno Terrero presided over the ceremony. The Intendente Municipal Cesareo Amenedo was also present. Local women played a crucial role in fundraising. Their dedication ensured the church’s completion. Luisa Carrere de Burzaco a significant donor provided the stunning bronze and crystal chandelier. It now adorns the left chapel.
The original design featured a single nave. It was 9 meters wide and 20 meters long. Two small chapels were added later. One housed a statue of the Virgin of Luján. The other held a crucifixion scene. These original statues remain in the central nave today. The architect was a Mr Carena his former quinta still stands. It’s a testament to the lasting impact of the church’s construction.
The church’s Italianate architecture hints at a rich history. The single nave’s barrel vault is supported by wooden beams. The original ceiling features beautiful evangelical scenes. They depict God the Father and the Holy Spirit. The Immaculate Conception painted in the style of Murillo is also depicted. These artistic elements add to the church’s spiritual ambiance. The building is crowned by a bell tower a symbol of faith reaching towards heaven.
Even the original iron roof beams remain. They support the corrugated iron sheets. These details show the careful craftsmanship. It’s a testament to the builders’ dedication.
