Imagine navigating Munich’s bustling streets. Baumann Bus is a name synonymous with reliable passenger transport. It is a family-run company with over 60 years of tradition. Baumann Bus’s story begins with Jakob Baumann. In 1948, he worked with the Pax Christi Organisation. Together, they organized a pilgrimage to Lourdes. About 2,000 people traveled by special train. It was the first time after the war people could travel abroad.

More journeys to Rome and Lourdes followed in 1949 and 1950. These were mostly private initiatives. The Kulturreisedienst Baumann was founded in 1950-1951. Its focus was on travel arrangement and bus transportation. In 1971, Baumann Reisen GmbH was established. The Kulturreisedienst Baumann became Baumann KG Verkehrsbetrieb in 1972. Initially, they managed first routes. Later they worked for Stadtwerke München Verkehrsbetriebe.

The Harald Baumann GmbH was founded in 1992. A name change followed in 1993. It became Baumann Busbetrieb GmbH. Baumann Busbetrieb joined forces with other companies in 1999. These included Autobus Oberbayern and others. Together, they founded teambus AG. It was known as Die Münchner Busreisen.

Baumann Busbetrieb introduced the DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 quality management system in 2002. They achieved successful certification in 2004. In the same year, Baumann Busbetrieb expanded. It took over the passenger transport division of Kraftverkehr Bayern GmbH. This was done through Busverkehr Südbayern GmbH. It was a joint venture with Autobus Oberbayern. Also in 2004, Baumann Bus invested in eight new low-floor articulated buses. This was part of the new bus network plan.

Baumann Busbetrieb received the Mittelstandspreis in 2007. The company invested in six new three-door low-floor buses in 2009. In 2010, Baumann Busbetrieb received certification. It was according to the new norm DIN EN ISO 9001:2008. Also in 2010, Baumann Busbetrieb invested in a solar power system. It was installed on the roof of their bus depot. The system generates over 97,000-kilowatt hours per year. This is equivalent to the energy needs of over 25 households. It reduces emissions by over 85 tons of CO2 annually.

Baumann Bus entered the long-distance bus market with FlixBus in 2013. In 2014, the company significantly expanded. It purchased a fleet of long-distance buses with Euro 6 engines. Baumann Bus expanded its long-distance bus activities with MeinFernbus Flixbus in 2015. The Baumann Fernbus GmbH subsidiary was founded in 2015. Baumann Busbetrieb invested in bus trains in 2016 and 2018.
